Trinity 8th St A champs

Trinity 8th grade won the St. Anthony 8th grade tournament on Saturday, going 4-0. Stewardson Trinity volleyball played the St. Anthony 8th grade tourney on Saturday.

Trinity 8th grade (13-0) went 4-0, winning first place. The Trinity 7th grade team (10-2-1) had their first two losses of the season. They went 2-2 and placed 4th.

Trinity 8th beat Holy Cross, 25-7, 25-6. They defeated St. Thomas, 25-11, 25-8. They beat North Clay, 25-11, 25-3, then beat St. Anthony, 25-13, 25-17.

Trinity 7th lost to St. Anthony, 25-18, 25-10. They defeated Mason Clark 25-9, 25-15. They beat Stew-Stras, 25-15, 25-27, on total points scored, 50-42. They lost to North Clay, 25-15, 25-15. 

A team dropped out of the tourney, because they had too many players out sick, so St. Anthony asked Trinity to bring two teams. Both the Trinity 7th and 8th grade teams got to play.

"I was very proud of the 7th grade, because they competed well in each match and was made up of five 5th graders, three 6th graders and one seventh grader," said Trinity coach Tammy Manhart. "They lost 2 matches, won one match and split one."

The tournament was set up to where the third set was not played and the winner of the match was determined on total points scored.

The 8th grade out-scored their opponents by 112 points, 200 to 88. They beat Holy Cross by 37 points, 50 to 13, by 18 points in the 1st set and 19 points in the 2nd. 

They beat St. Thomas by 21 points, 50 to 29, by 14 points in the 1st set and 7 points in the 2nd. They beat North Clay by 36 points, 50 to 14, by 14 points in the 1st set and 22 points in the 2nd. They beat St. Anthony by 20 points, 50 to 30, by 12 points in the 1st set and 8 points in the 2nd.

Trinity 8th served 60 aces, hit 69 kills and stuffed 5 blocks for 134 attack points out of 200 points (67%). They served 141 points and 60 were aces (42.5%). 

Ella Kinkelaar led at the line in the 4 matches with 32 points and 17 aces. She added 15 kills and a block for 33 attack points. Gabby Vonderheide was in concert at the line with 30 points and 17 aces. She added 15 kills and a block for 33 attack points.

Halle Moomaw served 19 points with 9 aces. She added a team-high 25 kills and a team-high 3 blocks for 28 attack points. 

Trinity dished 58 assists towards their 69 kills (83%). Alaira Friese dished 29 assists and Kinkelaar dished 26 assists. Trinity scooped 64 digs. Vonderheide led the defense 20 digs and Kinley Quast go down for 15 digs.    

The Trinity 7th grade scored the same number of points as their opponents, 158. They served 64 aces and hit 24 kills for 88 attack points out of 158 (55%). They served 96 points and 64 were aces (66.7%).

Colby McCormick led at the line with 25 points and 18 aces (72%), followed by Brenna Musson and Brinlie Durbin with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Durbin hit a team-high 8 kills to record 23 attack points. Musson hit 5 kills to record 18 attack points. McCormick hit 2 kills to record 20 attack points. 

Trinity 7th dished 21 assists towards 24 kills (87.5%). Durbin led with 10 assists and Mya Friese dished 9 assists. They scooped 34 digs and Musson got down for a team-high 13 digs.
